On a warm summer night (boy, do I miss those!) I found myself spending an hour with these cuties at their stunning home on the lake, photographing kids being kids and parents being awesome. 

Side note: Isn't this job just THE BEST EVER?! I totally pinch myself on a daily basis!

Jake's bar mitzvah was just a few months away and what better way to get to know this party of five than get them in front of my lens, in their most favorite place: home. If I could photograph every family in their home, in their most sacred space and natural habitat, I would. These are my most favorite sessions because they feel SO REAL. 

I think back to all the places I lived as a kid and I'm so grateful for the images we have in those spaces. But what I wish for some days is to have images of myself and my brother at various ages, playing in our sunroom at the house by the railroad tracks. Myself in the Pepto Bismol Pink room, playing with my giant stuffed panda bear and organizing my American Girl dolls. My parents watching my brother and I play basketball in the driveway on a warm summer night. Those moments, unposed, natural, totally real life. 

Those are the moments I love to give my clients-turned-friends. The ones you might not print as a giant canvas above your mantel, but maybe you will because they remind you of the life moments when you're completely carefree and just being 10000% who you are, with your partner and with your kids. But these moments are the ones you'll look back on when your kids move on to their next milestone and especially when they leave the nest. 

I hope that Anne and Lance look at these images often - how Abby's feet look so tiny on the concrete step, how Jake and Drew kick around the soccer ball together like only brothers could - how these moments are frozen in time.
